Its been very festive at Margot recently, we have a twiggy christmas tree festooned with fairy lights, Christmas decorations and small gifts near the door and more fairy lights with Sally’s lovely mini lampshades attached to give them a bit of vintage style.
As the sun goes down, Margot looks like a magical little grotto full of textiles, colour and pattern… minimal it ain’t. In addition to magical evenings at Margot watching the winter sun setting, we also welcomed our new featured maker for December,
Fiona Hesford- aka Sewgirl.
After a degree in fashion design , Fiona worked for several years as a design consultant in Paris before returning to the south coast to raise her family. Her brand Sewgirl mixes traditional sewing and dressmaking techniques with modern craft elements to produce a range of colourful accessories, toys and kits for the modern maker.
There is a strong Scandinavian influence in many of Fiona’s designs, referencing folk imagery with decorative appliques and screen printed elements hand printed in her studio.
In recent years, Fiona has run classes and workshops for all ages from her Sewgirl Makery, located at the bottom of her garden, she also regularly teaches sewing at Clothkits in Chichester, The Fluffatorium in Dorking , Surrey and More Sewing in Worthing. Her popular “Make your mother proud” classes often get booked up months in advance.
Alongside her teaching, Fiona is a contributor to several magazines and regularly designs projects for among others, Love Sewing Magazine. She also sells a range of her exclusive paper patterns in her online store.
